In 1982 Spain also hosted the FIFA World Cup & there were 24 teams in all. The group to which Spain belonged included Northern Ireland, Honduras & Yugoslavia. Since there was too much pressure on Spain being the host team, they had to struggle through their group. It was victorious over Yugoslavia, managed a draw with Honduras, but was defeated by Northern Ireland. However they managed it to make it to round two where they had to compete with England & West Germany. But disappointingly, Spain did not make it further.
